Recycled Water

When adequately treated and thoroughly disinfected, treatment plant effluents can be reused for many purposes such as landscape and agricultural irrigation and industrial applications. Recycled water is becoming a key part of California's overall water supply.

In 2000 SBSA began producing a limited quantity of recycled water for use at several landscaping sites in Redwood Shores. In 2007 a much larger recycled water facility began operation and produces up to 9000 gallons per minute. Redwood City facilities in Redwood Shores have the capacity to store 4 million gallons of recycled water.

SBSA has been a leader in studying the feasibility of carrying out recycled water projects. It is a policy of SBSA to provide technical and institutional leadership for the community it serves on all subjects related to water recycling. SBSA is prepared to coordinate public and private participation among the entities within the SBSA service area to assist in the development of local recycled water programs.
